好多時候我哋講述人/事/物嘅時候都會附上相關例子,一來幫助聆聽者更方便理解你的內容重點,二來可以令你的內容有根有據、更有說服力。以中文引用例子時,我哋會將加插在「例如」、「譬如說」、「舉例來說」在例子前面;反之以英文運用同樣技巧時,很多人卻只會說 “for example” 或者 “for instance”。試問每個考生都如此舉例時,你又如何能突圍以出呢?

Take+ object + as an example 「以⋯ 為例」

There are many places to have some fun. Take, the park, as an example.
Let us take glazed ham as an example – a classic and popular bake-and-glaze recipe for Easter.

Object(s) + illustrate this point 「⋯ 清楚表明了這一點」

There are many forms of efficient transportation in the city. Taxis, subways and the buses illustrate this point.
The example of China illustrates this point.

Objects + to name but a few 「就舉幾個例子」

I enjoy watching romance, comedies and action to name but a few.
There are many good teachers here – Marcus, Louis, and Adam to name but a few.

“To name but a few” 喺一個短語(phrase),你亦可以省略 “but” 就咁講 “to name a few”,或者直接講 “just to name a few” 。
