唔知大家仲記唔記得我哋講過關於「貓」嘅Idioms呢？除咗貓之外，香港都有好多愛狗人士，今日就嚟講吓同狗有關嘅7個expressions啦！

 

1. Every dog has its day 每個人總會有出人頭地的機會

 

They have practiced hard consecutively for three years now and finally got their first win, proved that every dog has its day.

他們辛苦地連續練習了三年，終於奪得第一名的成績，這證明了每個人都總會有成功的機會。

 

2. Put on the dog 裝模作樣

 

She always wants to put on the dog at the class reunion to show that she is very wealthy.

她總是想在舊同學聚會中裝模作樣，以表示自己過得很富裕。

 

3. In the doghouse 使某人生氣

 

The husband is in the doghouse for forgetting their wedding anniversary.

這位丈夫忘記了結婚週年紀念日一事，令到他的妻子很生氣。

 

4. Wake a sleeping dog 自找麻煩

 

Smart people never wake a sleeping dog. They don’t make simple things complicated.

聰明人永遠不會自找麻煩，他們不會把簡單的事情複雜化。

 

另外，Let sleeping dogs lie係指讓過去嘅事過去，唔好再自找麻煩。同Wake a sleeping dog有相反意思。

 

5. Dog-eat-dog 損人利己的一種競爭狀態

 

In a dog-eat-dog society, people try their best to be on top.

在狗咬狗的競爭社會中，人們都會盡全力去爭取處於領先地位。

 

6. As crooked as a dog’s hind leg 不誠實的

 

The lawyer is as crooked as a dog’s hind leg. He embezzles funds from his client.

這位律師不誠實的挪用了客戶的資金。

 

7. Throw sb to the dogs 捨棄某人去自保

 

The leader throws her team member to the dogs to save her own reputation.

這位隊長為了保持個人的名聲，對待隊員就像是在對待棄掉的棋子一樣。
